The SwampBats returned to Alumni Field to face the North Shore Navigators in double header action. They came into these games seeking much needed wins after back to back losses at home, while the Navigators rode up to Keene after being shut out the prior night.
Each team left Alumni Field with a win, the Navigators taking game one 4-3 and the SwampBats winning the second 3-2 in walkoff fashion.
Game one started off with the Navigators, after Maddix Simpson homered to left field in the bottom of the second inning. They would then add on with a Hunter Kingsbury homer in the bottom of the third. The Bats' would get on the board in the final inning, when Collin Anderson (Duke) sent a ball over the left field wall.
The pitching in game one played a big part in keeping the score close. Gian Gamelli earned the win after pitching 5.2 innings and striking out five. Thomas Mahoney went 1.1 innings and struck out one batter in the save. Jack Davis (UNC Asheville) pitched three innings and struck out three in the loss.
Game two was where most of the action took place. North Shore's Anderson French opened up the scoring in the third inning, driving in Hudson Ellis on a double into right field. Chris Polemeni (Connecticut) then sent one over the left field fence, tying the game. The Navigators regained the lead in the sixth inning after Tyler Schulman homered over the left center fence. Jackson Smith (Cincinnati) walked off the game in the seventh inning, driving Anderson home in the process.
North Shore's Robin Brown pitched five innings, striking out seven while Jack Zimmerman went 1.1 innings and struck out three in the loss. Ryan Bailey (Pittsburgh) opened for the SwampBats, going three innings and striking out three. Andrew Lepine (Central Florida) threw for 2.2, striking out four. Robert Gilchrist (Connecticut) earned the win in the final frame, striking out two batters.
The SwampBats are back at it tomorrow evening, as they travel up to Montpelier to face the Vermont Mountaineers, first pitch is set for 6:30 at the Montpelier Recreation Field.
