Bats Start Slow, Never Recover in Loss
Three Home Runs in Four Batter Span a Highlight in Otherwise Forgettable Defeat
Down by 11 in the bottom of the sixth, it was the returners from last year who know how to win in come back fashion that breathed life back into the SwampBats with back to back home runs, but it was not enough to claw away at the double digit deficit the team had gotten themselves into earlier in the game.
Aiden O'Connell (Duke) started on the mound for Keene and went 2 1/3 innings for the team, giving up seven hits, six runs, all earned but did strike out four batters. The Martha's Vineyard Sharks' bats were electric and contagious. Keene brought in Eamon McDermott (Dartmouth) to pitch, but after walking bases loaded and a run in, Keene went to Brayden Gilson (FAU) who pitched 2 2/3 and gave up four hits, two runs, both earned, but did slow down the Sharks momentum.
Keene's biggest momentum came in the bottom of the sixth when after giving up four runs in an inning, they responded with their own four run inning. Micheal O'Brien (undecided) hit a home run to right center to give some life to the SwampBats and right after, T. J. Schuyler (Georgia Southern) hit a home run 324 ft, shrinking the deficit into single digits. Colin Anderson (Duke) worked a walk, and Jackson Smith, who's bat has been on fire hit his own home run 350ft to make the game 13-6.
Joe Olson (Louisville) came in for the SwampBats and kept the Sharks scoreless until they hit their own homerun, scoring 3 runs and taking the game back out of reach for the team.
Between many scoreless innings for the SwampBats and pitching being out of the groove, the team fell for the second time in a row at home, 16-7.
Next game is a doubleheader against North Shore Navigators, first pitch is at 4:30, both games will be seven innings.
