KEENE, N.H. - The SwampBats (15-10-1) went to take on the Mystic Schooners (14-9) on Wednesday night after being swept on a road doubleheader. The Schooners were playing for the first time since the Fourth of July after a series of rainouts.
It was a quick outing for Keene's starting pitcher, Aiden O'Connell (Duke) after going an inning and a third while allowing 3 runs (2 of them earned) on 2 hits, as he was up to 46 pitches. Tyler Longoria (St John's) came in to end the second inning to limit the damage done, but got hit hard in the third inning with a two run homer from Mystic to make the score 5-0.
Following the home run, Longoria and the rest of the bullpen arms threw up 6 straight scoreless innings to give Keene a fighting chance. Parker Lind (Kent State), Sean Finn (Saint Joseph's), and Sabo Graham (Eckerd) were able to follow Longoria's bullpen efforts without allowing a run.
Keene's offense finally came around to score in the bottom of the sixth inning with an RBI single by Jackson Marshall (UConn). In the bottom of the eighth, the Bats were able to inch closer by Jackson Smith (Cincinnati) scoring on a passed ball to pull within 3 runs.
Though the effort came up short for Keene as they couldn't rally enough and fell to the Schooners 5-2.
The SwampBats are back at home on Thursday night to take on the Upper Valley Nighthawks at Alumni Field. First pitch is set for 6:35.
