Skid Hits Five as Navigators Roll Past SwampBats, 8-4
Keene Offense Plates All Four Runs in Ninth Inning
LYNN, Mass. – The SwampBats (15-13-1) traveled to Massachusetts on Friday to face the North Shore Navigators (15-14) for the last time this season. With a 4-1 series lead, the Bats' rode in looking for a much needed win after dropping the last four. North Shore came in looking to bounce back from a road loss the night prior.
The Navigators struck first after a dropped third strike allowed Hudson Ellis to cross home plate safely. Ellis would go on to single into left field in the bottom of the third, bringing Lane Allen home. Daniel Leikus then singled through the left side, which allowed Ellis to cross home plate.
The Navigators expanded their lead in the fourth inning. First with an Anderson French single that brought home Aidan Sengenberger. Ellis then reached on a fielder's choice that allowed Simmi Whitehill to come across home plate. Hunter Kingsbury then hit a single of his own, scoring Ellis once again. Kingsbury went on to double in the sixth inning, bringing home Ellis and Allen to give the Navigators an 8-0 lead.
The SwampBats' offense continued to struggle at the plate until the ninth inning. Up to that point they only had four hits. Two by Antonio Cordeiro (St John's), one by Nico Senese (Georgia Southern), and the fourth by Sean Finn (Saint Joseph's). It was a triple by Gavin Speirs (Charleston Southern) which finally put them on the board, bringing in Finn before he came across himself on a wild pitch. Chris Polemeni (Connecticut) then launched a ball over the left fence, scoring Tanner Beliveau (Mississippi State) as well.
Joe Olson (Louisville) started the game for the SwampBats, he pitched for three innings and struck out four batters in the outing. For the Navigators it was Gian Gamelli, who threw five innings and struck out eight batters.
The SwampBats' bullpen started with Sebastian Graham (Eckerd), who threw for two innings and struck out three batters. The ball was then handed to Robert Gilchrest (Connecticut), who went for two innings and struck out two batters. Eli Stephens (Georgia Tech) threw the eighth, giving up zero runs with no strikeouts.
The first bullpen arm for the Navigators was Cameron Keaveney, who pitched for three innings and struck out three batters. Connor Niemiec was sent in next, he finished with one strikeout before Justin Fryer was handed the ball for the last out.
The SwampBats will return to Alumni Field to take on the Valley Blue Sox for the second time this season. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 tomorrow evening.
