SwampBats Run Away Late, Trounce SteepleCats 14-6 to Move Back Over .500
14-Hit Attack Powers Bats to Home Win
KEENE, N.H. - The Keene SwampBats secured crucial win over the North Adams SteepleCats on Thursday night at Alumni Field. With a back and forth battle in the middle innings, Keene's late pull-away sparked a much needed 14-6 win as they head into the mid-July playoff push.
Joe Olson (Louisville) was on the mound to start for the SwampBats. In only three innings of work, Olson was able to tally a strikeout with only two hits and only allowing 1 earned run.
The offense bounced back quick after being down 1-0 as Micah Kendrick (Louisiana Lafayette) dropped a base hit into the outfield to score two runs and take a 2-1 lead. Insurance came through right after as Charlie Meglio (Rutgers) followed with a 2 rbi base hit that just found the outfield grass, extending Keene's lead 4-1.
North Adams put up a four spot of their own in the fifth inning, retaking the leads 5-4. That was until the home-half of the sixth inning where Eli Stephens (Georgia Tech) tied the game with an RBI double as he got on base 4 out 5 times at the plate Thursday. He then scored for a second time after a sacrifice fly by TJ Schuyler (Georgia Southern) to put the SwampBats in the leads 6-5.
The Bats did not look back after that as in the very next inning they would score 8 more runs, all started by a towering two-run homer by Nico Senese (Georgia Southern) into the center field parking lot.
The SwampBats had solid pitching out of the bullpen featuring good appearances by Tyler Longoria (St John's), who was the winning pitcher of record, Parker Lind (Kent State), and Robert Gilchrist (Connecticut).
The SwampBats head back on the road Friday as they travel to Newport, Rhode Island, to take on the Gulls. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 at Cardines Field.
